At Hamilton, they think ahead and support good ideas in a straightforward and active way.
Work and Study: Career start for young talents
Adrian Joost is a young professional. That's what we call young talents who launch their careers while still studying. Adrian is studying "Computational and Data Science" at the University of Applied Sciences Graubünden and also in addition to being employed at Hamilton Medical.
Adrian is a high-flyer. While still studying, he is already working 60% of his time in his field of expertise in the development team at Hamilton Medical. By the time he finishes his studies, he will already have four years of professional experience. “I can put my theoretical knowledge into practice here. And what particularly motivates me is that I’m working on a specific use case at Hamilton Medical,” says Adrian about the benefits of the program. Originally from Appenzell Ausserrhoden he is currently working on the further development of the ventilator software for Hamilton Medical. As part of the team Adrian specifically automates the testing of new software or new software features.
“Adrian task is of enormous importantance. I would go as far as to say that he plays a key role. We are currently focusing on the automation of tests and this is where Adrian’s expertise and strengths come into play,” says Peter von Reitzenstein, Team Leader of the software team. One figure clearly shows how important the automation of tests and Adrian’s work is: up to now, 1600 hours of testing have been carried out before software can be released – and all of it manually. Previously, a person entered new commands into the system every few minutes and then reviewed the results. This is now automated. “Automation can speed up our processes enormously. We can also carry out tests at night and on weekends. Above all, we can test several devices at the same time,” explains Peter.
It is obvious that Adrian is given so much responsibility. Anything else would be a wasteof his talent. “His studies have given him the necessary specialist knowledge. His distinct strengths are data processing and data analysis. He is also very proactive. He brings a lot of ideas to our team and has creative solutions for our challenges,” says Peter.
Adrian is highly motivated. Both at university and at work. This stems from the possibility tocombine his studies and work so well and apply his specialist knowledge straight away – it’s the perfect combination. Hamilton’s flexibility ensures that this works as smoothly as possible. “In the summer, when I’m on semester break, I can accumulate a few hours of overtime by working more than 60%, and then cut back again during the exam period.” Adrian cannot deny that there can be stressful phases. He says it’s important to take time for himself and his hobbies.” I like to go climbing to recharge. We’re in a real climbing paradise here in the canton of Graubünden,” says Adrian happily.
It’s a win-win situation. Adrian can start his career during his bachelor’s degree and Hamilton in turn benefits from Adrian’s sound and up-to-date specialist knowledge.
