CO₂ reduction targets of the Hamilton companies

13.12.2023

In line with 1.5° path: Science Based Targets Initiative validates CO₂ reduction targets of Hamilton Bonaduz and Hamilton Medical.

Climate protection and the reduction of CO₂ emissions are the key tasks of our time, and we also have a special responsibility in this regard. For this reason, the Hamilton companies have committed to the reduction targets of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) this year.

SBTi validated our CO₂ reduction targets for 2030 as part of its new 1.5°C framework in October 2023. Following a comprehensive validation process, the company’s target achievement by 2030 was successfully assessed according to the strict SBTi criteria:

  • Die Hamilton Bonaduz AG / Hamilton Medical AG commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2020 base year.
  • Moreover we commit to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 52% per CHF value added within the same timeframe.

SBTi was jointly founded in 2015 by the UN Global Compact, the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the World Resources Institute and the WWF. In recent years, SBTi has become a global standard for companies that want to make a voluntary contribution to achieving ambitious climate protection targets, not least due to the initiative’s high level of credibility worldwide. Around 6600 companies are currently participating in the initiative. (as of November 2023)

Ambitious corporate climate action – Science Based Targets

Our “Sustainability Commitment 2030” proves that climate protection is a key element of our sustainability strategy. The SBTi validation shows that our sustainability program is not just an ambitious reduction target – but that we are pursuing a clear, scientifically based approach. We can reduce our carbon footprint on an industrial scale through product and process innovations.
